The shields that protect the SCUs within these facilities are tied either to the progress of the base capture timer, with the shields falling upon the timer reaching at least 50% of its progress in favour of the attackers, or to the control points, with the shields disabled at any time the attackers own all of the control points. When the unit is destroyed, all in-built allied spawning functionality is disabled, and all faction-specific shielding or pain fields that protect any spawn or teleporter rooms are disabled. In other bases, the SCUs power the spawn room and any attached teleporter rooms.

Destruction of this generator permanently disables the shield, until the generator is brought back online by Engineers. The SCUs within these facilities are shielded by an SCU Shield Generator, located in a large building just outside of the SCU's housing. However, the SCU has no bearing on the usability of spawns provided by the Bio Lab's satellite bases. Without it, that spawn room is left completely unshielded, with no pain field to protect it, and allied forces are completely unable to select it as a spawn option. Within Bio Labs, the centrally-located SCUs power the main spawn of the facility, as well as the vehicle bay below the structure. Amp Stations, Tech Plants, Bio Labs, and some other crucial facilities (such as The Crown or Crossroads Watchtower) see their spawning capabilites made vulnerable by the presence of an SCU, though the unit itself is typically well-protected. The Spawn Control Unit, often shortened to SCU, serves as the power source for the rebirth matrices at major facilities. To overload or diffuse a generator, approach it until an in-world text prompt appears atop the generator, and then hold the Interact hotkey ( E by default) Nano-Repair Grenades and the Enhancement Grenade cannot repair generators, although the Havoc grenade can prevent repairs on generators. Overloaded generators can be diffused by any allied players.Дestroyed generators must be repaired by Engineers using the Nano-Armor Kit. Overloaded generators display flash both on the minimap of all players, as well as in the world, with the in-world icon displaying the time until destruction. Generators can be overloaded by any hostile players, though require an uncontested lattice link to the base to do so. Typically itself protected behind a shield that requires considerable progress towards the base capture to bring down, or the destruction of an SCU Shield Generator, these generators tend to be the most well-guarded of the selection.

Unlike the other generators, this unit provides for the base's spawning capabilities, rather than projecting a shield. The final type of generator is the Spawn Control Unit itself. These generators serve as the only protection between hostile forces and the SCU itself in the bases which use them. Some bases also make use of an SCU Shield Generator, one which powers impenetrable shields to protect the Spawn Control Unit.

Vertical and Horizontal Shield Generators, named as such thanks to the lines in their icon, tend to block strategic infantry lanes at Amp Stations and Tech Plants, either completely preventing their access to critical locations or removing a major pathway. Vehicle Shield Generators almost exclusively control shields that block the passage of vehicles as well as all weapons fire, though these shields do not prevent the passage of infantry. The two most common are Vehicle Shield Generators and Vertical/Horizontal Shield Generators. There are several types of generators that can be found throughout these facilities.

Typically located at major facilities such as Amp Stations, Bio Labs, and Tech Plants, as well as their satellite bases, Generators control shields throughout those bases, some of which restrict access to the base for vehicles, or access to critical pathways for all troops.
